Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyer David Kephart was born and raised in Kansas and is yet another transplant to Arizona. While growing up, his family was very active in his church and his parents impressed upon him strong Christian values and morals, and also taught him the value of hard work and dedication. With this principled upbringing as his foundation, Defense Attorney David Kephart has always strived to help others and his community.

Upon graduating high school, Mr. Kephart attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. While at K-State, he continued to be active in school and community activities. In his third year at K-State, Mr. Kephart entered the Finance degree track and majored in Corporate Financial Management. In order to pay for college, Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyer David Kephart worked full-time and was still able to graduate near the top of his class. Mr. Kephart’s professors encouraged jim to continue in a masters or doctoral program in Finance, but Law seemed to be his true calling.

Soon after graduating from K-State, Mr. Kephart was accepted into Arizona State University College of Law. While at the College of Law, he was actively involved in numerous organizations, and took president and vice-president positions in several.

During law school, Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyer David Kephart became passionate about personal injury law and criminal law. Knowing that both personal injury and criminal law required exceptional courtroom advocacy and litigation skills, he decided to participate in the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office student clinic. Soon after, Mr. Kephart worked for a small personal injury and criminal defense law firm and later clerked for the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office Appellate Group. Despite taking on substantial leadership roles and working nearly full-time, Mr. Kephart was again able graduate with honors.

Upon graduation and completion of the bar exam, Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyer David Kephart continued his litigation training and had the opportunity to work as a Deputy Public Defender Trial Attorney. He quickly became recognized as an aggressive and determined criminal defense lawyer because he never backed down from a case and he volunteered to take on many difficult and complex cases. During Mr. Kephart’s last year at the Public Defender’s Office, he took on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in one of the most significant Sixth Amendment (right to counsel) cases in recent Arizona history.

After working for the Public Defender’s Office for nearly three years, Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyer David Kephart decided to enter private practice and worked for a small criminal defense firm in Chandler. He was quickly elevated to the level of partner and took on a significant portion of that firm’s serious and complex criminal cases. Mr. Kephart also created an appellate practice which expanded the firms ability to effectively represent their clients.

After two years in private practice, Phoenix Criminal Defense Lawyer David Kephart decided to create the Law Office of David Jameson Kephart, PLLC so he could focus his skills and compassion on diligently and competently representing his clients. It was after working large case loads as a Public Defender and constantly chasing the dime in private practice, that Mr. Kephart realized that he wanted to change the way he practiced law.
